Iranian film ‘Mourning’ to go on big screen Saturday

Iranian film ‘Mourning’ directed by Abbas Kiarostami’s collaborator opens in Iranian cinemas on a limited release basis.

A local media report said showings of the widely respected and internationally acclaimed Iranian film by Morteza Farshbaf will be held starting from Saturday at selected movie theaters of Iran Art and Experience Cinematic Group.

A film catalogue for ‘Mourning’ read, “From a black screen, a man and a woman are heard arguing and hurrying away from a house ... Kamran and Sharareh, a deaf couple, are driving Sharareh’s young nephew, Arshia, back home to Tehran. Something terrible has happened.”

Farshbaf’s debut feature film was premiered at 16th edition of Busan Film Festival in South Korea and received the Best Film Award and FIPRESCI Prize.

Starring Sahar Dolatshahi, Kiomars Gity and Amirhossein Maleki, ‘Mourning’ was shown in at least 20 film festivals around the globe.

Director Morteza Farshbaf was born 1986 in Iran Gonbad-e Kavus. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film from the University of Art in Tehran and has been working as a director, writer, editor and cinematographer since the age of 18.

He has also worked with late-great Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami on several film projects.
